Physical and mechanical effects of starch-gelatin binary binder mixtures on sodium salicylate tablets
نویسندگان
چکیده
Starchgelatin binary binder mixtures were applied in the formulation of sodium salicylate tablets. Locally developed cassava starch (tapioca starch) was used as a co-binder with gelatin. Wet granulation method was used to formulate different batches of sodium salicylate tablets with varying binder concentrations (1-5%w/w) and starch – gelatin binder ratios (25:75, 50:50, 75:25 and 0:100). The sodium salicylate granules were evaluated for flow properties, friability, moisture uptake while the tablets were assessed for crushing strength, friability and crushing strength-friability ratio (CSFR). Formulations prepared with gelatin, had lower granule friability than those produced with cassava starch – gelatin binder mix. Flow properties did not follow any definite pattern ,whereas moisture uptake studies showed that gelatin batches absorbed more moisture than cassava starch-gelatin batches. As the gelatin content decreased, the tablet crushing strength and CSFR decreased while the friability increased. The mechanical strength and moisture uptake of the gelatin based granules or tablets reduced with the incorporation of cassava starch

Evaluation of Okra gum as a binder in tablet dosage forms
The type and the amount of binders decisively influence the characteristics of tablets prepared by wet granulation procedure. Commonly used binders like acacia, gelatin, starch and hydrolyzed starch have natural origin. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a new binder extracted from Hibiscus esculentus (Okra gum) in tableting. binder Hibiscus esculentus gum was extracted ...

متن کاملAn Evaluation of the Binding Strength of Okra Gum and the Drug Release Characteristics of Tablets Prepared from It
The aim of this study is to evaluate the adhesion ability of okra gum, which is gaining popularity as a tablet binder. For this purpose, gum was extracted from okra pods, and the binding strength of different concentrations (1%, 3%, and 5%) was determined quantitatively. Additionally, naproxen sodium tablets were prepared by using okra gum as a binder and were evaluated for their properties inc...
متن کاملEffect of Binders on the Dissolution Rate and Dissolution Efficiency of Ritonavir Tablets
Ritonavir, a widely prescribed anti-retroviral drug, belongs to Class II under 'BCS' and exhibit low and variable oral bioavailability due to its poor aqueous solubility. Ritonavir is practically insoluble in water and aqueous fluids. Its aqueous solubility was reported to be 2.56 mg/100 ml. As such oral absorption of ritonavir is dissolution rate limited and it requires enhancement in solubili...

In present investigation, the effect of egg albumin on the rate of dissolution of analgesic tablets has been studied. Three sets of binder containing egg albumin in different ratios were used to prepare laboratory scale formulations and their dissolution behavior was studied. The best result was achieved from formulation having all the three binders (egg albumin, gelatin and corn starch) in 1:1...
